Korn

A unique alternative metal sound made Korn the group among the most popular and provocative bands to emerge from the post-grunge era.

Korn began as the Bakersfield-based metal band LAPD, which included guitarists James "Munky" Shaffer and Brian "Head" Welch, bassist Reginald "Fieldy” Arvizu and drummer David Silveria. In 1993, LAPD teamed with Jonathan Davis, a mortuary science student moonlighting as the lead vocalist for the local group Sexart, and rechristened the band Korn.

Korn issued its debut album in late 1994. Unaided by airplay but pushed by a relentless tour schedule that included stints opening for Ozzy Osbourne, Megadeth and Marilyn Manson, the album went  gold. A string of successes followed including two Grammy Awards, seven consecutive platinum studio albums, one platinum compilation album and seven consecutive debuts in the top 10 of the Billboard Top 200 album chart.  Korn also has the distinction of being the first hard rock group ever to headline at New York’s historic Apollo Theater.

Welch left the band in 2005, but Korn has continues. That year the band released See You on the Other Side, its seventh studio album. Live & Rare, a collection of live recordings and rarities, was released in May 2006 with the live acoustic recording MTV Unplugged following in March 2007.
