Outdoor Recreation

ImageKern County is paradise for thrill seekers withspinetingling activities available ontheground, in the water or high in the air. Kern County is a haven for off-road enthusiasts with state andfederal off-highway vehicle parks found throughout the county.  It’s also home of two of the state’s premier skydiving locations, catering both to newcomers and experienced jumpers.

It’s a great place to enjoy boating and fishing on three of the southern San Joaquin Valley’s largest man made lakes, and don’t miss the famous Wild and Scenic Kern River, one of the world’s premier whitewater kayaking and rafting attractions.

If it’s the cold that invigorates you, then enjoy our winter recreation areas for a day of skiing or snowplay. On the quieter side, enjoy one of Kern’s many locations for award-winning birding, hiking, horseback riding, or a simple round of golf.
